Police on Friday recovered from 3 Robinson Street a diary of Partho De in which he has referred to his sister Debjani as a saint and expressed a wish to "organise" his life by imitating her, sources said.
The entries in the dairies - the one referring to Debjani as a saint was possibly after her death - are arranged according to dates, unlike another diary the police had earlier seized.
The diary found on Friday also contains cartoons, drawn alongside entries. Some sections are highlighted with sketch pens.
"This diary looks more arranged than the previous one. The first look would remind one of Debjani's habit of decorating the pages of her diaries with small cartoons and highlighting sentences with sketch pens. The content of the diary shows Partho's efforts to organise his life," an investigator said.
"In the new diary, containing entries between the last week of February and the middle of May, Partho has referred to Debjani as Saint Bani (her nickname) and expressed his belief in God and miracles," the officer said.
"Partho has also mentioned in the diary, for the first time, the name of the solicitor his father Arabindo had contacted to sell the Robinson Street property."
The diary has apparently revealed that Partho reunited with Arabindo during this period. "We suspect Arabindo came to know about his daughter's death after the reunion," the officer said.
Partho is said to have told the police that Debjani had died in December.
But what prompted the reunion? "Records of Partho's bank accounts show he was left with only Rs 128. That might have prompted him to reconcile with his father," the officer said
The diary also revealed that Partho missed Terry - one of the family's pet Labradors that died last August.
Officers working on the Robinson Street mystery said the diaries maintained by each of the three family members speak volumes about their nature.
Arabindo De
• Meticulous: He would note down the entire day's activities. Say, what he did at 9am, whom he met at noon and how his son behaved.
• Preference for shorthand: He would use small phrases - sometimes to describe his son's behaviour, sometimes to express his state of mind.
• Cryptic: "Unconscious unconscious unconscious....," he had written in an entry that has left the cops guessing what he was referring to.
Debjani De
• Meticulous: She would mention the date of each entry.
• Love of calligraphy and colours: Debjani used to jot down her thoughts in a calligraphic handwriting and use sketch pens to draw small cartoons and smileys on the pages of her diaries and highlight some sentences.
Bank details
The police have found eight bank accounts of the Des - in five banks. Transaction details are being analysed to ascertain their financial condition and how it might have affected the course of events.
• Arabindo had sold gold jewellery in two popular stores in the city in February and March. The money was transferred to an account that was jointly held by Partho and Arabindo.
• It is suspected that since Partho and Debjani had refused to accept any direct help from their father, Arabindo was forced to transfer the money in this way.
• Details of the accounts and the sale of the jewellery suggest Arabindo was suffering from a financial crunch.
• The suspected crunch might be the reason why Arabindo was in a hurry to settle the property dispute with his brother Arun and sell the house.
• Debjani's account had been lying dormant since mid-2014.
Skull test
The sleuths on Friday moved court seeking permission to send the skull of the skeleton found in the De house to Chandigarh for superimposition test that will help determine whether it was of Debjani's or not.
