Bengal logs 551 new Covid cases in a day

Bengal on Monday reported 551 new Covid-19 infections, 248 recoveries and no death.

Case positivity rate was 9.55 per cent on a day 5,769 samples were tested.

Currently, there are 4,080 active cases in the state: 3,923 in home isolation and 157 in hospitals, according to the state bulletin.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, the state has recorded 20,25,523 cases, of which 20,00,227 have made full recoveries. Altogether, 21,216 fatalities have been recorded in the state so far.

In light of the recent uptick in cases, booster doses being administered in the state have also increased.

Earlier this week, the Bengal government wrote to the Centre with an appeal to reduce the gap between second and booster Covid doses to less than nine months, in light of the renewed spike in cases.

Medical professionals have also gone on record advocating for a fourth dose for healthcare professionals, similar to what is being practised in Western countries.
