There have been many games inspired from anime. Honkai Impact 3 is for those anime fans who want to be part of a crazy story with amazing graphics - on their mobile.

Honkai is a mysterious power that has preyed on humans many times in the past and it has again been unleashed on the earth. You play as the commander of the elite fighting force formed to defeat the Honkai deadwalkers and monsters. The fighters are called Valkyrie. There are multiple characters for you to unlock and play with as the mystery is unravelled, level by level.

The standout aspect of the game is its graphics. The beautiful, cell-shaded 3D graphics will blow you away and the colours are bright and vibrant. It is difficult to believe that such a polished product is actually possible on the mobile.

Honkai Impact 3 is a classic hack-and-slash game adopted flawlessly for the mobile. It feels very much like a game from the Devil May Cry series. You can take up to three characters into a battle and switch between them. There are three types of characters and each have their strengths and weaknesses. Every character has a basic attack and a combo attack that you can trigger by tapping in a specific sequence. They also have a special attack that ranges from an ultimate sword attack to a super laser beam to a cat robot attacking from another dimension. This is exactly the kind of outlandish experience that one expects from a game inspired by anime. To top it, if you manage to block an enemy's attack at the right time, you go into a slow-motion mode that slows down the enemy, making it easier for you to attack.

You start off with the story missions that teach you about game controls and the story. As you progress, different modes open up. There are timed events that give you special characters and resources. There is also a co-op mode where you play with others to take down huge bosses. The daily quests tell you what to do while the open-world gameplay for special quests is a welcome change from the story-based levels. There is no dearth of content; even after a whole week of playing the game, you will still find new things to do.

VERDICT: As with any such game, you need to make certain upgrades so that your character becomes stronger. Sometimes, there are so many things you have to do that you lose track, and the game gets confusing. Also, getting new characters is not straightforward but based on luck. Having said that, if you are a fan of anime and decide to invest your time in Honkai, you will be rewarded. I would rate this game nine out of 10.

Anime games for the mobile

Puzzle & Dragons: This is a match-3 puzzle game with elements of role-play and strategy. Players have to match coloured orbs that determine which monster on the player's team attacks the enemy as well as the damage inflicted by it. There are over 3,000 types of monsters to choose from. A player could add any six to his or her team. The monsters are drawn from fantasy, mythology and religion, as well as from popular franchises.

BLEACH Brave Souls: This, too, is a hack-and-slash game for the mobile, one of the better ones. If you are not familiar with the story, playing in the story mode gives you a decent idea. The first character you get is Ichigo Kurosaki, a two-star character. Playable characters rated one-star are the most commonly found while five-star is the rarest. Some characters are available only during special events, so you should keep a look out for them to snag the really rare characters.
