Jamshedpur, Jan. 22: The concluding day of Wheels 2006 organised by the Graduate Engineering Trainee (GET) Club at the Telco Club complex had the participants sweating over the rise and fall of stocks in the market as they bid for profitable deals.
That was after they had their share of fun of games and music at events with which the days kicked-off with. Not that the bids for stocks was not fun. It was all part of the event which brought together members of GET in a series of events and contests spread out as part of the three-day extravaganza.
Titled ?stock market?, the participants had to buy and sell shares of four virtual companies by bidding on a particular bandwidth.
?Each company has been given a particular bandwidth and in the given time the participating teams have to pass through 15 trading sessions and get the best deal,? said Puneet Agarwal, a member of the GET club.
To make the contest more real and challenging, in between the trading sessions, there were small news capsules on current fiscal rates and the economic policies of the companies were shown to the participants.
?The initial rounds were held just two days ago and a total of 16 teams participated including students and company executives, ? added Agarwal.
The innovative nature of the game kept the participants totally engrossed, who also used the opportunity, no doubt to hone their skills for the future.
The response to all the events, including the morning events like fancy dress contests, quizzes, ad-mad show, debates, and even a mehendi drawing contest, were all big draws, Agarwal pointed out.
?The response to all the events have been overwhelming this year and we hope that the tradition would surely continue in the future,? he said.
With the participants having slogged hard at the events, the organisers saw to it that there was entertainment lined up for them with the Delhi-based music band Prestorika brought in to perform for them at the Sumant Mulgaonkar Stadium.
The five-member rock band comprising Nitesh Vasanandani, Lokesh Bakshi, Vatsav Vashisht, Gurtej Singh and Joydeep Das are all set to steal hearts in their first performance in the steel city.
The band has already performed at prestigious shows like the opening act of a Grammy-nominated band ?Ramsus?, and college fests such as Rocktaves at BITS, Pilani, Mood Indigo at IIT, Mumbai and Blitzkrieg at IIT Delhi.
It has also performed with British poet Patrick Neate at the British Council. Just what was needed to warm up the chill of the winter evening as the event concludes.
