Jamshedpur, May 18: A day after the results, students are not taking time off to celebrate their marks. With results of entrance exams for professional colleges around the corner (IIT results are scheduled on May 30), most science students are still keeping their fingers crossed.
For R. Shivaraman of DBMS English School, who secured the second spot in the city in ISC (science), the wait is far from over.
His mother, Sudha Ramaswamy, said: ?He is waiting for the results of the engineering test as that will decide his future. We are certainly overwhelmed with his performance but Shivaraman considers his chemistry marks as unsatisfactory.?
Shivaraman is not alone in the boat of discontent. His counterpart in ADLS Sunshine School, Praveen Singh, also feels the same way. In spite of topping his school, Praveen said: ?My chemistry score wasn?t really impressive and that brought my percentage down. However, I am now looking forward to my engineering test results.?
Sourav Biswas is also chasing the IIT dream. The top scorer of Kerala Samajam Model School (ISC science) said: ?This is a crucial time for us as the actual make-or-break results are yet to come. However, I do have my backup plans ready in case I am unable to make it to an IIT.?
With eyes set on St Stephen?s College in New Delhi, in case the IIT plans fail to materialise, Sourav also expressed disappointment at his score. ?I am applying for physics (honours) at St. Stephen?s College in Delhi. But I am not really very satisfied with my score, as I had expected to do much better in certain subjects like English.?
Like the science students, those in the arts stream are also enduring nail-biting sessions, as entrance results to their preferred colleges are yet to come through.
Anindita Mitra, who topped Sacred Heart Convent School in ISC (commerce) is away at Calcutta to take a shot at the entrance tests for law courses.
Her mother, Alpana Mitra, said: ?Anindita wishes to pursue law and so she is attempting for top colleges such as NLSIU (Bangalore), NALSAR (Hyderabad), Symbiosis (Pune) and a few others.
?We are certainly elated with her success, but have deferred the celebrations till she comes back. What really counts is how she makes her dream come true by making it to her dream college.?
As Anindita cracks the law code, Gurusharan Bhamra, Loyola School?s pride in the ISC (arts) stream, is packing his bags for New Delhi. ?Though I am keeping my options open, I want to make it into one of the top colleges in Delhi. I am quite satisfied with my marks, but I am not going to celebrate, not yet.?
With students keeping the champagne bottle corked, schools could not be far behind.
Authorities of some schools have asked their students to give written feedback on the coaching and teachers.
Pradipta Chatterjee, acting principal of ADLS Sunshine School, said: ?We have asked our students to give their feedback in writing, so that we can work on our results in the coming years.?
Meanwhile, other schools are getting ready to kick off internal reviews to improve next year?s results.
Authorities at Kerala Samajam Model School are looking into their mathematics and science results at the ICSE level, as the ?performance has been unsatisfactory?. Principal Nandini Shukla said: ?Though I am very happy with the performance of my students, mathematics and science results could have been better. We shall review where we went wrong and work on our shortcomings.?
