Forty six persons, including migrant workers from Bengal and their families, who were stranded in Ranchi district following the lockdown, were shifted to a shelter home by Ranchi Catholic Archdiocese at Ursuline High School at Muri bordering Purulia district in Bengal on Friday.

Of the 46 persons, six are women and three children below six years. Each of them was given a mat, two bed sheets, two towels, a steel plate, glass, bucket and mug besides masks and hand sanitisers. They will also get three meals every day.

The shelter can accommodate 200 people.

After the lockdown, the labourers had started walking towards their homes and had covered around 60km when the police stopped them near the Bengal border.

Approached by the district administration, Ranchi Catholic Archdiocese agreed to give them shelter and set up 14 such centres across the district.
