New Delhi: Simple Kaur Bumrah of Maharashtra created three national records and grabbed the gold medal in the women’s +75kg in the national weightlifting meet on Sunday.
The 17-year-old lifted a total of 252.5kg (112.5 + 140) for her first record. When she managed 135kg in her first clean and jerk attempt she exceeded 240kg (the previous record) and with a lift of 140kg in the second clean and jerk attempt she created yet another national record.
In the team event, Karnataka led among women with 505 points followed by Police Services Board (PSB) on 425. Simple was adjudged the best lifter.
In the men’s category, PSB topped with 517 points while Railways finished second with 563. Services Sports Control Board settled for bronze. Sateesha Rai of Andhra Pradesh was adjudged best lifter. (PTI)
