Calcutta: The last time Ashish Nehra played in an ODI was back in 2011, when India beat Pakistan comprehensively to enter the World Cup final.
Six years have gone by and Nehra still aspires to get back in the one-day fold. He retains hopes of playing in this year's Champions Trophy in England.
"I would love to play in the Champions Trophy. I'm hopeful," Nehra told a cricket-specific website on Saturday.
"When you go to England, you will take at least four fast bowlers in addition to two spinners. I know I can bowl anywhere - upfront, in the middle overs and at the death. I can also share the experience I have with the other young fast bowlers."
It's not easy to stage a comeback remains undeterred. He<> has worked out a detailed plan"I aim to play at least three (Vijay Hazare Trophy) matches to work further on my match-fitness. Fifty-overs is a different challenge and Vijay Hazare is a good platform to test myself," the left-arm pacer said.
"I bowl about eight overs even at nets while preparing for a T20 match. It is not about fitness. It is about the feel of playing in a 50-over match."
Playing in the Vijay Hazare matches will keep in good shape and stead for the Champions Trophy, Nehra believes.
"Once I play these Vijay Hazare matches, I will be fit enough to play and good to go for the Champions Trophy," he said.
