Karthik's for VJD method

Calcutta: Unhappy with the DLS method that made the equation even more favourable for the Kings XI Punjab on Saturday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Dinesh Karthik suggested that the VJD method, used in domestic limited-overs matches, should be applied in the IPL as well.

Karthik's argument was that since the IPL is a domestic competition, the VJD could be use in the T20 tournament as well.

Speaking at the post-match media conference, he said: "When rain stopped play, KXIP needed about eight runs an over. But after the DLS method came into effect, they need six an over - run a ball.

"That was a little surprising because ideally, if it would have been a 20-over game, they would have needed eight an over. And if we could have got two quick wickets, the required rate would have kept going up.

"Suddenly after rain, they needed run-a-ball. I didn't understand that bit, but I am sure that the DLS method is something people are trying to figure out...

"I have always thought that since the VJD is used in Indian domestic tournaments, why not think about it for the IPL? It has been proven that it's a really good method.

"We have used it in domestic tournaments. But only for IPL we use the DLS. Why not think about VJD here and promote it?"

Admitting that KKR would certainly have liked to get more than 191 for seven, Karthik felt that his bowlers could have done a better job and restricted KXIP.

"Ideally, you need 50-60 runs off the last five overs, while we got only 45. But at that stage, myself and Andre Russell were out and you cannot expect the tailenders to do it for us."

Meanwhile, KKR are optimistic about Russell's availability in their next match, on Friday against Delhi DareDevils. "He seems okay at the moment," Karthik said.
