IFA Shield from Friday

The IFA secretary Utpal Ganguli rued, on Tuesday, that the AIFF has not given due importance to the prestigious IFA Shield.

The 115th edition of the IFA Shield will begin on Friday, when Aryan and Lajong FC lock horns at the Salt Lake Stadium. “Unfortunately, the AIFF has not accorded priority to this tournament,” Ganguli said.

Ten clubs that include China outfit Shandong Luneng Taishan and five I-League clubs, including the city’s Big Two, are in contention for the title.

Group A: East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting, Southern Samity, Churchill Brothers, Shandong Lueng FC (China).

Group B: Mohun Bagan, Chirag United, Aryan, Lajong FC, Pune FC.

WB Police win

West Bengal Police defeated George Telegraph by five wickets in a CAB Championship Playoff match, on Tuesday. For West Bengal Police, coached by Arun Sarkar, Sanjit Sardar claimed five wickets while Nitesh Agarwal snared 3 wickets without conceding a run.
