Ganguly

Calcutta: Former Test umpire Bhairab Ganguly passed away on Wednesday. Ganguly, 82, had been ill for sometime and died of multiple-organ failure.

He had officiated in five Test matches. The India versus England Test — back in January 13 to 18, 1982 at the Chepauk — was his first match as an international umpire. The last Test in which he officiated was at the Eden, again featuring India and England, from December 31, 1984.

Apart from Tests, Ganguly also officiated in a couple of ODIs.

The India versus Sri Lanka match on September 15, 1982, in Delhi, was his first. Two years later, he officiated in his second and last one-dayer, featuring India and Australia, on September 28.

He was also a member of the board of trustees at the Cricket Association of Bengal. His body will be brought to the CAB on Thursday morning.
