Mumbai: Comparisons with Brian Lara doesn’t bother Darren Bravo. He has learnt to deal with it and is more interested to do his job properly. Though the Indian bowlers have been at the receiving end in the first two days of the Test, Bravo feels the visiting bowlers will bowl much better.

“I think our fast bowlers can get something from the wicket as long they bowl in the right areas. After all, we have Ravi Rampaul and Fidel Edwards who can bowl close to 90 mph,” Bravo said at a press conference, at the Wankhede, on Wednesday.

The following are the excerpts

Missing his double hundred

I think I became a bit tired. I was suffering from flu over the last couple of days. It took a toll on me but nevertheless, I am quite satisfied with my performance and obviously feeling good about the entire team’s performance.

Whether they should have given India a couple of overs to bat

I don’t know… I am not in the right position to answer, you must ask that to the coach...

Comparisons with Lara

Well, I am told if I had scored one more run, I would have equalled Lara. But I don’t think you can plan and do that. I don’t think it’s something you can go there and try to achieve, it’s something that happens on its own. Nevertheless, I am very happy with what we did as a team today and hopefully, we can go out tomorrow and build on that.

The innings at the Eden and the Wankhede...

I don’t like to compare innings but I think I am in pretty good form at this point in time. Hopefully, I will continue with this form.

The way he planned his innings...

It was very important for me to stay positive as much as I could. The openers did a tremendous job as well as the No.3, Kirk Edwards. When you come in on that platform, you try to continue from where they left. I thought Kirk and I batted really well yesterday and it went excellently today as well. Unfortunately, he didn’t go on to get another Test hundred but he is performing pretty well. We have a good understanding together. We just tried to continue from where the openers left.

The Wankhede wicket

I think, the wicket is a decent batting wicket. There is a bit of turn for the spinners but I think our fast bowlers can get something from the wicket as long they bowl in the right areas. After all, we have Ravi Rampaul and Fidel Edwards who can bowl close to 90 mph. So we are going to go out there with high energy. We are going to go out there positive and try our best to get their top-order out as early as possible. I know, it’s going to take something special from our fast bowlers, but at the same time I believe we can go out there and get the job done.

Whether Indian bowlers were a bit defensive

When it comes to the Indian bowlers not attacking, I think they have a decent plan for me. But, I have been working hard at nets and I believe I am timing the ball quite nicely. Hopefully I can continue to go from strength to strength.

If the pitch has changed over the two days

I think it played much better today. The ball was coming on to the bat quite nicely. Yesterday, there was a bit of moisture on the wicket probably throughout the day. But, as I said, it is a decent batting wicket. As long as you apply yourself and assess the conditions as quickly as possible, there are runs to get on this wicket. It’s a nice batting wicket…
