Dhemaji: A central inter-ministerial team on Tuesday made an on-the-spot assessment and aerial survey of the damage caused by floods in Arunachal Pradesh's East Siang district.

Deputy commissioner Tamiyo Tatak apprised the team led by joint secretary (home), Prakash, on the damage caused to roads, bridges and cultivated land by the Poglek Korong (stream) and the disruption of communication on the Pasighat-Ledum-Tene-Koyu road.

Bosing I zila parishad member Namuk Taloh told the team how fields were submerged, horticulture gardens damaged and livestock affected. He said besides eroding a large portion of upstream areas, downstream villages also faced flood fury.

The team also visited the Sibo-Korong area and assessed the damage, including at Gidi-Notko boundary wall.

Later, Tatak in a PowerPoint presentation highlighted the most-affected villages under Mebo subdivision, particularly Mer, Gadum, Namsing, Silluk and Pasighat Sadar, Jarku, Pasighat market, Police Colony and Teking and Sibut villages. Nearly 783.37 hectares of cropland and 2.12 hectares of horticulture farms were affected in 2017, he said.

The Siang and various rivers and streams caused extensive damage to vital infrastructure, houses, cultivated lands and affected livestock and grazing areas, Tatak said.

The other team members are K. Manoharan, director, department of agriculture, Calcutta, R.B. Kaul, assistant director, finance ministry, Vishal Pandey, assistant executive engineer, ministry of road transport and highways, Itanagar regional office, Pawan Kumar Gupta, assistant director, power, and B.B. Saikia, ministry of water resources, Assam.
