Sept. 9: More than 200 students are expected to take part in the Kamrup (metro) district-level Children’s Science Congress 2007 on September 30.

The meet will be part of National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) 2007.

Dhrubajyoti Kalita, district co-ordinator, Kampur (metro), NCSC 2007, said the project reports will have be hand-written by the participants except for the physically challenged. “No typed or printed project report will be considered for evaluation. This rule may not be applicable in case of handicapped children,” he said.

The students, who will participate in teams of three, will have a project guide each. The guides can attend the technical sessions along with the teams but they cannot help during presentation. Guardians also will not be allowed to enter the technical room. The teams have to bring a photocopy of their respective project reports to the technical sessions. The original copy has to be submitted to the district organising committee 10 days ahead of the science congress.

On August 25, an orientation programme, emphasising the involvement of the educational institutes in the activities like the National Children’s Science Congress, was held at Maharishi Vidya Mandir Public School.

The topic for the science meet is apt for the region, which is rich in biodiversity and where children can play a very crucial role. The NCSC provides the children, aged between 10 and 17 years, a unique opportunity to use their scientific temperament and knowledge to fulfil their dreams.

The programme was initiated in 1993 to provide a forum to the young scientists to pursue their natural curiosity and to quench their thirst for creativity by experimenting on various problems.
