Guwahati, Jan. 5: Audio clips, video clips, animations, graphics, Google Earth and photographs are some of the learning tools students of upper primary level will soon have in their schools.
Along with the State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT), the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET) of the National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) is teaching teacher educators across the state to make these teaching aids so that they can be made available to the students of upper primary level for quality education.
The trainees from the District Institute of Education and Training and the College of Teacher Education have been learning to create these teaching resources through video conferencing with the help of education satellite system here from Monday.
Besides Assam, teacher educators from Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Kerala, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Orissa, Punjab, Puducherry, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra are also participating in the national-level event.
Assam has 24 participants.
“Those who are being trained by us will have to train teachers from upper primary schools. The teachers will then use their lessons to teach the students,” said Jayanta Kumar Sarmah, head of research and evaluation department of the SCERT.
Sarmah said the computers, received by the schools through Rajiv Gandhi Computer Literacy Scheme, could also be used to teach students with the help of these digital resources.
Besides academicians Vasudha Kamat, the joint director of CIET, and Amarendra Behra, the head of CIET training division, a group of experts have been imparting training to the participants.
The CIET is a constituent unit of the NCERT. It was established in 1984 with the merger of the Centre of Educational Technology and department of teaching aids. Its chief aim is to promote educational technology, especially mass media singularly or in combinations (multimedia packages), to extend education opportunities and improve quality of education at the school level.
“The NCERT’s main purpose is to train up teacher educators for training mentors in integrating information and communication technologies in schools,” Sarmah said.
