Ribhav Verma comes out on top at the 2023 Protouch Amateur Golf Championship

Amateurs and juniors battled it out at Tollygunge Club during the IGU East Zone Feeder Tour event

Ribhav Verma emerged victorious in the 2023 Protouch Amateur Golf Championship, claiming the title at Tollygunge Club on November 10. Verma clinched the championship with an impressive three over par 143 after two rounds of intense golf, marking a triumphant moment in the latest edition of the Indian Golf Union (IGU) East Zone Feeder Tour, organised for both amateurs and juniors.

Anshul Mishra secured the second position with a score of five over par 145 in two rounds. In the Mid-Amateur category, Mayukh Ray won with a score of seven over par 147 in two days. Abhishek Mitra claimed the second spot with a score of 167. Sudeep Chitlangia dominated the Senior division, securing victory with a total of 159 over two rounds. D. Bose secured the second position with a score of 164. In the Super Senior category, Ashit Luthra emerged as the winner with a total score of 167, while Sumit Banerjee secured the second spot with 172.

The 2023 Protouch Junior Golf Championship also witnessed fierce competition, with Aditya Khaitan claiming the title in the junior division with a score of 162. Aarav Kapoor secured the second position with a score of 166. Andrew Baid emerged victorious in the B Boys’ category with a score of 175, followed closely by Arrham Jain with 180. Krishiv Rungta claimed the C Boys’ division title with a score of 170, while Aranyak Chakraborty secured the second position with a score of 172. Ayan Mimani triumphed in the D Boys’ category with a score of 188, followed by Hrian Khem with 195.

Gauri Sharma claimed the A & B Girls title with a score of 172, while Mehak Lohan secured the second position with a score of 173. In the C & D Girls’ division, Julinka Roychowdhury emerged as the winner with a score of 167, and Nahida Parvin secured the second spot with a score of 187.

In the E Boys’ category (under nine years), Harshit Raj Singh claimed victory with a score of 80 in two rounds, with Parikshet More securing the second position with a score of 87. Ahana Khaitan emerged as the winner in the E Girls’ category with a score of 99, while Rasmeet Khanuja secured the second position with a score of 129. This event was also recognised by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Ribhav Verma won the WAGR event after shooting three over par 213 (67-76-70) in three rounds followed by Anshul Mishra, who shot five over par 215 (77-68-70).

The awards for the event were presented by Tollygunge Club captain Sreyon Chatterjee, ex-captain Mayukh Ray, and Indrajit Bhalotia, director of Protouch Sports. The tournament’s education partner was The Champ for Life Academy, the outdoor media partner was Balaji Ads and the online proshop partner was Golfedge. Keventer, eastern India's largest FMCG company, had sponsored giveaways for all the participants. The event was managed by Protouch Sports.
