The Sodepur Nobodoy Sangha Durga Puja, located in Sodepur’s 3 number gully in Deshbandhu Nagar, has pulled out all the stops this year. Having initially planned to build this year’s pandal on the theme ‘Mohenjodaro’, the Puja committee eventually decided to go a different way. Aiming to create an experience that would be for, and fun for, children, ‘Harry Potter er Jadu Nogori’ – the result of six months of planning, is the brainchild of all those discussions
All photographs by Arnab Dutta, text by Ahan SenThe pandal itself is externally completely built of fibre, with some mechanical components inside being made from metal
Artist Bikas Biswas, the man behind the idol, specially created the protima to perfectly synchronise the energy of the wizarding world that is being portrayed by the Puja
The dark and ominous interiors of the pandals with its life-like props are sure to thrill and spook you. And the very next moment, Harry flying on his Nimbus 2000 broom up above near the ceiling will bring a smile on your face
Sodepur Nobodoy Sangha Club secretary Bubai Mallick, who has been working on their pujas since his childhood, said: ‘This puja is not for us, it is for everyone. From children to older people, we made this for everyone. We wanted to take care of everyone who would come to visit the pandal, as well as take care of the Puja itself. We wanted to make this year’s puja for kids, because they are the future, and that is special’
