Jamshedpur, May 14: The verdict of the electorate against the BJP in the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency has revved up the otherwise dull Opposition in the East Singhbhum district.

The victory of the dark horse, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) nominee Sunil Mahto, over BJP Abha Mahato by a margin of over 1.05 lakh votes has propelled non-NDA political outfits of the district into a flurry of activities.

The district Congress unit, foreseeing an early Assembly election, today held preliminary discussions to strengthen the block and panchayat level committees of the district. “We have decided to depute three district committee members at each of the six Assembly seats in the district to strengthen the local party unit,” district Congress president Ramashray Prasad said, adding that the Lok Sabha results was a shot in the arm for secular parties.

The district Congress will organising a victory rally in the city on May 16 to drive home the point among the electorate that though they did not contest the poll from Jamshedpur, the party cadre had backed the JMM nominee to ensure his victory.

Prasad predicted that the good show by the secular forces would continue in the Assembly poll.

The CPI, which has considerable influence in Baharagora and Ghatshila Assembly segments of East Singhbhum, has also decided to step up its efforts to strengthen its base in those areas.

“The Lok Sabha results were a a boon for secular forces,” said senior state CPI leader and member of the party’s Singhbhum council Tikaram Majhi.

According to Majhi, the results will be analysed to locate the grey areas for the party. “We are also in the process of organising meetings in different areas. The results of the Lok Sabha polls are a referendum against the non-performing state government,” he added.

“We have planned several activities from next month. We intend to work on motivating our cadre and also organise meetings in the district to inform the people about the state government’s misrule,” said district president of RJD’s youth Purendra Narayan Singh.

Samajwadi Party state president Banna Gupta said his party would concentrate on strengthening its base in the state.

“We have been encouraged by the results. We will organise meetings in every district of the state to take on communal forces in the Assembly election,” Gupta said.
