Ranchi, Sept. 10: In a bid to spread the cultural heritage of Jharkhand among youths, the culture department organised a 14-day folk dance workshop here today.

The workshop is held at city-based Oxford Public school. Nearly 30 students from different colleges in the city took part in the workshop.

Culture department assistant director Harendra Prasad Sinha said the participants would be taught the technical aspects of different tribal dance forms.

He said: “With the onslaught of western culture, it is high time to make youths realise the greatness of our heritage.”

“Jharkhand has a lot of hidden talents. We have to bring it to the forefront. We have to make everyone aware about our culture. And such workshops are essential for the revival,” he added.

Manpuran Nayak, one of the teachers, said they would leave no stone unturned to make the participants experts in the art of tribal dance.

The enthusiastic students said they would try their level best. Sushila, one of participants, said, “I wanted to know about the rich cultural heritage of Jharkhand. These tribal dances are rhythmic and graceful. I am a great fan of tribal dance and will try my best to learn it.”

Deep, another participant from Ranchi College, said he wanted to become a teacher.

“I have been smitten by the tribal culture. They have cast a spell on me. I want to learn every tribal dance form as well as the languages. Being a history student, I want to do a research on them.”
