Home is where my mom is, read a slogan on a T-shirt.

That summed up the spirit of Mother’s Day on Sunday in the capital, where children expressed their feelings on Mother’s Day.

Indus Fashion Academy (IFA) hosted competitions such designing T-shirts and cards, as well as a dance contest. The theme? Simply “Ma”.

Over 60 IFA students — who study in schools or colleges but take part-time courses offered by the fashion institute — participated at the event held on its Lalpur campus. While 30 students took part in the T-shirt painting contest, 30 others made cards.

Youngsters painted on T-shirts and wrote slogans — “home is where my mom is”, “365 days of hard work and only one Mother’s Day” among others — designed to make mothers smile or tug at her heartstrings.

Karminder Kaur, a ninth grader of St Anthony’s School, bagged the first prize in the T-shirt painting category.

Lipi Bhowmick, who stood first in the card-making category, said: “My mom is my best friend.”

The IFA in-charge Sabir Hussain, who wore his heart on T-shirt — Save Girl Save Mother — added: “Our students expressed their love.”

Children and mothers also had a gala day out at Aqua World. As many as 40 mothers and their youngsters put their best fashion foot forward and scorched the ramp. Children also performed dance items based on “Ma” theme, with mothers joining them to jig to popular Bollywood numbers.

“We are incomplete without mothers,” said Akash Kumar, a fifth grader at DAV Public School. Equally moved were mothers, some of whom who could not hold back their tears.
