Jamshedpur, Nov. 28: It is time for a telecommunication boom, as the Tata Teleservices is all set to launch its services in the steel city on November 30. A formal announcement is expected from Ajay Pandey, president of Tata Teleservices, during his visit to the city tomorrow.

This is the telecom giant?s first foray into the eastern region. At present the company offers services under the brand name of ?Tata Indicom? in eight out of the 20 circles across the country.

After launching its services in the steel city, the company plans to extend its services across other towns in the state including Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Chas.

Tata Teleservices sources said the private telecom operator also plans to launch its CDMA mobile (both post and pre-paid) and Fixed Wireless services.

Introductory schemes would soon be offered to subscribers, sources said. Tata Steel employees can avail of some special offers as well, they added.

?No security deposit and activation charge will be required for Tata Steel employees opting for Fixed Wireless Phones (FWP). However, general consumers have to pay Rs 1,000 as security money (refundable) and Rs 800 as activation charge for the same service. A minimum monthly rental of Rs 240 (with 120 free calls) has been fixed for the FWP subscribers and Rs 1,500 for STD service,? sources said.

As an introductory offer , the FWP subscribers would be provided with additional facilities of internet data cable and a free compact disc containing software package for internet access, they added.

Sources said the telecom company would offer attractive value-for-money tariff plans and a range of handsets suited to diverse customer segments for its CDMA cellular phone service.

Customers can choose from Nokia (2280 and 3105) and Kyocera (Phantom, Blade and Rave models) handsets priced between Rs 4,000 to Rs 7,500.

A senior Tata Teleservices official said the handsets and recharge vouchers would be sold from the franchisee showrooms (True-Value shops) and retail selling points which have been set-up in Bistupur and Sonari areas of the city.

The network control would be monitored from the state-of-the-art mobile switching centre, which has been set-up at the Voltas House in Bistupur, he said.

?The company has appointed three direct selling agents in Bistupur and Sonari,? the official said, adding that the USPs of Tata Indicom?s CDMA network include improved call quality with better and consistent sound, minimum call drops, improved coverage and network efficiency. It would also provide value-added services like roaming, Short Message Service (SMS), voice portal and attractive mobile games, he added.

?The fixed wireless phones will have a seven-digit number starting with 553, while the CDMA mobile service would have 10-digit numbers starting with 92346. No service or administrative charge will be required for the recharge vouchers,? said the official. A talktime of Rs 300 would be provided for a recharge voucher of Rs 300, he added.

Sources said a joint team comprising officials of Tata Teleservices and state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recently completed the network test drive in the city for launching the services.
