Sana loses crown, wins hearts

Jamshedpur, March 5: He failed to bag the Indian Idol title, but succeeded in making the crowd go berserk whenever he took the centrestage.

City-lad Amit Sana who made it to the finals of Indian Idol, a national-level talent contest of Sony Television, lost to Abhijeet Sawant of Maharashtra in a neck-and-neck battle this evening.

The judgment was based on the performance in the final round and the number of votes both the candidates got from the public. The two-hour mega final was shot at Famous Studio in Mumbai.

Speaking to The Telegraph over phone from Mumbai, Amit?s brother Ashok said though his brother gave one of his best performances in the final round, he failed to get more votes.

Ashok said Amit?s popularity chart according to the website of Sony Television was much lower than Abhijeet. The winner was leading with 70 per cent in the popularity graph while Amit was lagging behind with 30 per cent.

?I feel sad for my brother but at the same time I am happy that he reached till the finals. Amit received a standing ovation for his performance and I am proud of him,? said Ashok. He said even though he has lost the finals, his brother would continue scaling new heights. ?Music directors Anu Malik and Himesh Reshamiya have recognised his talent and have assured to promote him,? Ashok said. Born and bought up in Bhillai, 21-year-old Amit settled in Jamshedpur to pursue higher studies. He now lives with his maternal uncle and his family at Kadma.

His relatives in the city had pinned high hopes on him. They were disappointed that he lost in the final fight. ?He gave his life?s best performance. I wish he had won the title,? said his maternal uncle, V.M. Prasad.
