Ranchi, June 23: The human resource development (HRD) department today decided to forward the proposal of conducting students? union polls in the universities directly to the Raj Bhavan for gubernatorial nod.

The HRD, which has approved the proposal tabled before it by the Ranchi University last February, also sought the opinion of Vinoba Bhave University and Siddho Kanhu University on the direct method of students? polls.

?After we received identical opinion from both the universities, we have decided to seek the gubernatorial nod. Now, the proposal would be formally forwarded to the HRD secretary. Then, the minister will put his signature on the proposal and send it to the Raj Bhavan,? said a source in the HRD department.

The decision to forward the matter to the Raj Bhavan was taken at a review meeting chaired by the HRD minister, Pradeep Yadav. Decision to open 81 more Kasturba Gandhi residential schools by July 30 was also taken there.

When contacted, the HRD minister said the department had already opened two such schools. In order to ensure enrolment of more girls to the secondary schools, the department has decided to run 81 more Kasturba Gandhi residential schools in the state.

According to sources, when the state government realised the need of more such schools, it forwarded a proposal to the Union HRD department in this regard.

Of the 85 proposed residential schools, only two have so far been started ? one each at Kharsawan and Godda. Chief minister Arjun Munda had inaugurated the Kharsawan-based school on August 19, 2005, while HRD minister Pradeep Yadav unveiled the school in his home constituency, Godda.
