Ranchi, July 29: Good news is in store for teachers as Ranchi University today decided to pay their pensions within six months of their retirement.
The decision was taken after the RU pension cell received several complaints about the pending cases on retirement dues.
The cell resolved that the pension of the retiring teachers would be fixed within weeks from the date of retirement of the teacher concerned irrespective of the status of the required documents .
Pro vice-chancellor Salil Roy, who presided over the meeting, told The Telegraph: ?We have asked the colleges to complete all the necessary formalities in a retirement case six months before the date of retirement. This way the university will be able to pay the dues at the earliest.?
Roy said a notification in this regard would be sent to vice-chancellor A.A. Khan for his approval. ?We will inform the finance department about our decision,? the pro vice-chancellor added.
The cell criticised the finance department, which allegedly delays the retirement dues of the teachers on the slightest pretext.
?If the department did not have the required document, the finance authorities should fix the pension on the basis of the salary paid to a teacher in the last 10 months of his service,? Roy said.
?We wouldn?t allow any impediment to come in the way to the speedy fixation of pension and its regular payment. Even the other retirement dues would be cleared at the earliest, else the university would take to task the college (concerned) that had failed to furnish the service documents of a retiring teacher to the pension cell.?
