Ranchi, July 28: For Nalin Singh, tomorrow is not just another Friday.
The Ranchi-born actor-scriptwriter is set to make international debut with his film, Gandhi to Hitler, and its English version, Dear Friend Hitler, hitting theatres across the globe tomorrow.
The film, starring Raghuvir Yadav as Hitler and Neha Dhupia as Eva Braun in the lead, has already received rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival 2011 in May and now, all eyes will be on the box office.
Others in the cast include Singh, Aman Verma, Avijit Dutt, Naseer Abdullah, Lucky Vakharia, Nikita Anand and Bhupesh Kumar Pandey. Singh, who wrote the script, makes a debut as an actor as Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s think tank. The movie has been directed by debutante Rakesh Ranjan Kumar and produced by Anil Sharma.
“Gandhi to Hitler is a new experiment. There is no dearth of good ideas in Bollywood though this film will stand out as we made Hitler speak in Hindi for the first time. The film remains true to history. It also makes for a complete family entertainer. I hope it works out well,” Nalin Singh told The Telegraph over phone from Delhi.
Although there are no songs in the English version, the Hindi dubbing contains five classical songs, including a chorus, sung by Daler Mehendi, Bhupen Hazarika, Jagjit Singh and Shaan.
“It was a challenge writing the script and making Hitler and his confidante, Goebbels, speak Hindi. All the rules of the game had to be broken. But then if our Slumdogs can speak in a foreign tongue, so can the Fuhrer,” Singh said.
Gandhi to Hitler delves into the dictator’s downfall, his lonely last days spent at a bunker and the Germany that he created crumbled, though his love, Eva Braun, and trusted aide Goebbels stood firmly by him.
“The film establishes the superiority of Gandhism over Nazism, thereby conveying the message of peace,” Singh signed off.
