Jamshedpur, March 13: Extremists have come up with a ?one-member-from-one-family? campaign to expand their dwindling base in far-flung rural areas.

The campaign is aimed to make the organisation strong, which has been hitherto weakened by the regular onslaught from the police force active in the rural pockets of South Chhotanagpur region.

Two suspected hardcore extremists detained by the Khunti police at the Tamar-Kuchai border last night have revealed the same.

Police also recovered one country-made firearms and two cartridges from their possession. Besides, one bag full of medicine and Rs 2,500 has been recovered from their possession. The detained extremists received guerrilla warfare training in West Singhbhum?s Saranda forest. Their name appears on a list provided by then superintendent of police Praveen Kumar Singh to the Ranchi police, said police sources. The detained extremists, Kalicharan Singh Munda alias Kalo and Kisto Munda, both in their mid 20s, residents of Boghoi and Paramdih villages respectively have said several meetings have been conducted by the rebels in the region after the state Assembly election was over.

?The duo revealed that a series of meetings were attended by top zonal, sub-zonal and area-level commanders of the extremist organisation. The meetings were conducted at Kuchai-Tamar border and Khunti areas,? Khunti sub-divisional police officer Madhusudan Bari told The Telegraph.

The encounter between the police and the extremists at Sikid village under Arki police station of Ranchi district and in Kuchai-Tamar border had forced the rebels to take a backseat.

?The rebels are now concentrating to expand their base in rural areas by launching these campaigns. They are forcing the rural public to join their organisation. Reportedly, several youths have abandoned the villages due to their threat,? said Bari.

Police raided the area following a tip-off about a meeting by the extremists at Lungtu village.

Sources based at the state intelligence department have also confirmed presence of over 300 rebels, including their Nepal and Andhra Paradesh counterparts in Kuchai-Tamar border.
