Jamshedpur, May 30: As many as 350 applications were processed at Passport Seva Camp, which kicked off at Chamber Bhavan in Bistupur today.

The applicants, who came from East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts, visited the two-day camp for mandatory verification of documents like proof of date of birth, address and educational qualifications and other formalities.

A 24-member team, which has come from Ranchi-based Regional Passport Office to carry out the proceedings, also took biometric fingerprints and photographs of the applicants.

Assistant passport officer Bhaskar Seal said all of them had applied for passports online. "All applications will be taken to Ranchi for processing before issuing the travel document. The residents of Jamshedpur will not have to go to the capital to get their applications and credentials vetted," he said.

Seal said 350 applications were dealt with on Day One and an equal number of applicants were expected to visit tomorrow. All the documents submitted by the applicants will be thoroughly scanned and later uploaded on the system.

"Details of police verification will be examined at our Ranchi office. We are also giving file numbers to the applicants, who can check their passport information on our website www.passportindia.gov.in," said Seal.

Organised by the Regional Passport Office and Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the proceedings are being held between 9.30am and 5pm. While verification of required documents was done on the second floor of the Chambers Bhavan, biometric details and photographs were taken on the third floor.

"Most of the applicants were from Jamshedpur. Some had come from West Singhbhum and Seraikela. The camp went off in a hassle-free manner. We are happy that people living in this part of the state will no longer have to travel to the capital for verification," said SCCI president Suresh Sonthalia.
