Ranchi, Nov. 21: With popular Disc Jockeys (DJs) having taken over the marriage scene, traditional marriage songs have become passé. Many of the DJs are in fact invited from other cities like Calcutta, as in the Gymkhana Club.
Ajit Horo, the president of the Jharkhand Rock Music Association, which has been giving regular shows during the marriage season and are looking forward to more, said they do not go in for Hindi film songs and make that clear to their clients, too.
“We are more into playing Hindi pop and English rock music,” he said, adding that they normally charge Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000.
As far as the response from the audience is concerned it’s good enough, he said. “But then, we also have our own selection process of inviting people so that the programme does not get affected,” said Horo. Deepshikha, a pass out from BIT, who has started her own event management group, Shaadi Aapki Vyastha Hamari, said : “People want to relax and enjoy the marriage process. So hiring DJs has become the best option.”
She added they have designed their place Sakchi Upavan where all types of parties are held.
“We have a pre-crafted stage with music system,” she said, adding that price is no longer a factor. There was one client from the city last year who had given Rs 20, 000 to a DJ from Mumbai.
“My elder son was getting married for which we wanted some sort of cultural function. It was my brother in Mumbai who suggested the DJ. Initially, we were hesitant, but after seeing the show, it seemed worth it,” said the client.
