
Lifeline Express or Jeevan Rekha Express - a five-bogey hospital on wheels - is all set to provide medical assistance free of cost to over 40,000 patients suffering from different diseases during its fortnight-long stay at Kumardubi station in Dhanbad district.
The world's first hospital train, run by the Impact India Foundation - an NGO, was developed in collaboration with the Indian Railways and Union health ministry. The train equipped with sophisticated medical gadgets and two operation theatres reached Kumardubi on Wednesday.
Maithon Power Limited has sponsored the medical expenses of the Lifeline Express. It was inaugurated by chief executive officer-cum-executive director of Maithon power K. Chandrashekhar and project head of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) B.D. Sahu in the morning.
Notably a team of over 40 medical professionals, including 18 specialised surgeons and 10 medical-interns and para-medical staff and others, would attend the patients during the 14-day camp.
Patients suffering from ear related problems were examined on Wednesday and would be checked on Friday. The screening of patients with cleft lip would be conducted on February 4 while operations for the same would be held on February 5 and 6.
Patients suffering from cataract would be examined on February 8 and 9 while the surgery would be performed on February 9 and February 15. The screening of patients suffering for dental, epilepsy and gynaecological diseases will be held from January 28 to February 10.
"Registration for the patients has started at Maithon ESI hospital from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday. Patients undergoing operations will be admitted to DVC hospital for post-surgical treatments," said Abhishek Singh from coal logistics and corporate affair department of Maithon power.
Earlier, speaking at the inaugural function, K. Chandrashekhar said, "We believe in providing best medical and surgical facilities to the communities around us and Lifeline Express helps to provide on the spot diagnostic and surgical treatment."
Principal of BSK College, Maithon, J.P. Sao, chief medical officer of DVC hospital N. Moitra, commandant of CISF Manmohan Singh, chief executive officer of Lifeline Express Rajnish and others were also present at the occasion.
