Jamshedpur, July 1: State archers are expected to get lucrative job offers after their impressive performance in the recent World Archery Championship in Spain.
The sports ministry has asked the state archery body to send a detailed report on the performance of Jayant Talukdar, Robin Hansda and Gautam Singh Sardar in the world meet.
Jayant is a senior cadet of Tata Archery Academy while Robin and Gautam, both of whom hail from Jharkhand, are employed with Army Sports Institute, Pune.
The three archers helped the country win a silver medal in the world meet. Jayant is a native of Assam and one of the best archers in the country.
Last month, the cabinet decided to offer police jobs to three archers of the state ? Jhanu Hansda, Dola Banerjee and Reena Kumari. The government has offered the post of deputy superintendent of police to Dola and Jhanu and inspector to Reena.
Sports secretary N.N. Sinha said they have the sought details of the performance of the three archers at the world meet.
?We are trying to make a provision of direct recruitment in the sports policy of the state. At present, we absorb sportspersons on ad hoc basis,? he added.
Archers have a bright chance of getting absorbed in government jobs, Sinha said.
Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA) secretary Sanjeeva Singh said they would shortly send the details to the sports department, adding that they appreciated the attitude of the government. ?Job opportunities in Jharkhand will propel our archers to put up better performances in international archery championships,? the senior JAA functionary added.
Singh said both Robin and Gautam have informed the JAA that they were willing to return to Jharkhand provided they got government jobs. ?The two archers are willing to return to their homeland,? he said, adding that the duo?s families reside in villages near the steel city.
Singh said they would also send the details of other state archers, including Sakro Besra and Bansara Lin Dhar.
Job opportunities will also help arrest the flight of talented archers to other states, the secretary added.
