Jamshedpur, Aug. 20: Those who love to watch horoscopes on television every morning, could now get their future read from astrologers from Australia, Italy, Ukraine and Malaysia for free.

Members of the Centre of Astrological Study and Research (CASAR) decided to organise the Asian astrology conference in the steel city next year while addressing the annual general meeting today.

Astrologers and numerologists from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, United States, Ukraine, Thailand, Australia and Italy will take part in the conference, which will be held in February.

Popular demand from those who follow astrology closely in the city led CASAR founder and director S. Kumar Shastri to organise the show.

“Free consultation from renowned astrologers would definitely be an added attraction of the conference. This would benefit the people of Jamshedpur, too,” he said.

The members also constituted a new executive body and approved various proposals. They also agreed to start the Astrologers’ Welfare Association of Jharkhand (AWAJ).

“We felt the need to form AWAJ, as despite being highly educated, astrologers in the state are still regarded as part of the deprived category,” Shastri said.

The newly formed body will also create a collective fund for the welfare of the astrologers. It will also bring the astrologers on a single platform and provide them with economic assistance during mishaps or serious ailments.

Besides, it will also generate funds to allow local participation in national and international conferences.

The members also decided to restructure the teaching section of CASAR.

Now, astrologers J.V. Murlidharan, Ujjal Rai and Madhusudan Shastri will impart education to the students. Astrologers Abhijit Chakravarty and Sushil Sharma, who are teachers on probation, will assist the seniors.

Changes were also made in the courses. Now the diploma course in astrology and palmistry has been replaced with a Masters course at the Sakchi-based institute.

Among those who were nominated as executive members of CASAR council include Viswa Jyotish Chakraborty and S. Kumar Shastri (founder and director), Tapan Roy (chairman), J.V. Murlikrishna (president), Ujjal Roy, Bijay Chakraborty and T.K. Ghosh (vice-presidents) and Rajesh Bharty (general secretary).

Members were also nominated for the post of councillors, public relation officers, controller of examinations, principal, faculty and office co-ordinator.

Murlidharan was also nominated as the president of the board of astrologers of the Jamshedpur unit. State committees were also constituted for the years 2008-09.
