Ranchi, April 28: Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Gyan Sudha Misra today left for New Delhi to take up office as a judge of the Supreme Court. With Justice Misra securing a berth, the number of chief justices from Jharkhand to make it to the Supreme Court has reached three in 10 years.
The timing of Justice Misra’s elevation could not have been better as it was also her birthday today and there could not have been a better gift. A hurried party was organised in the White Hall of the Jharkhand High Court and a cake was cut by Justice Misra before she left for Delhi later in the afternoon.
Misra is expected to take the oath of office tomorrow and will be fourth woman judge to function in the apex court.
Judges in the Jharkhand High Court rose early today to honour Justice Misra who is also the first lady Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
Justice Misra, known for her acumen in service and industrial dispute matters, had passed numerous landmark orders during her tenure as Chief Justice in Jharkhand. Justice Misra is also known for her compassion for the weak and downtrodden and personally ensured that justice was meted out to the oppressed.
