Ranchi, Sept. 27: A Nagpuri film on the lines of Rang De Basanti is set to rock a cinema in the state capital soon.

Rizhuwar — A part of Ulgulan revolves around the zamindari system whereby the wealth of the poor is seized and they are left with no favourable options. Director Sameer said the story line shows how certain youths show inclination to fight the atrocities powerful landlords commit against poor peasants. “I wanted to depict the present social and political milieu at the backdrop of the zamindari system,” he added.

The movie, a Bhawna Production undertaking, is slated to release at Plaza Cinema on September 29. The primary focus of the movie is that though 59 years have passed since Independence, parts of Jharkhand are under the grip of zamindars.

It took almost three years and Rs 2 lakh to complete the film, said Sameer. State’s artistes Santosh Dubey, Nutan, Gunjan Kindo, Sneha and Pranav Choudhary have acted in the movie.

Media spokesperson for Bhawna Production Pankaj Bhushan Pathak said the film was shot in Ranchi district, mainly Kantatoli, the Horrap forests, Gautam Dhara and Ormanjhi.

“We have tried to show that the zamindari system continues to eat up the vital elements of democracy. As zamindars have power and money, they try to use it to grab the land of the farmers and burn the deeds that could free the rurals from the clutches of the landlords. The farmers ultimately become land-less and when they go to police station to complain, they are sent away,” said Bhushan.
