Ranchi, Sept. 13: A Ranchi man’s journey from a school dropout to a successful social entrepreneur finds place in an IIM-compiled documentation of 29 real-life inspirational stories.

IIM-Ranchi student Snigdha Jha dedicates a chapter to Ganesh Reddy (44), now at the helm of Citizen Foundation at Nivaranpur near the overbridge in the state capital, in the non-fiction compilation titled, “Small Big Bang”, edited by Ratan Lal Mani.

Snigdha is among 26 students of 13 IIMs contributing to the compilation. Priced at Rs 349 and published by Grey Parrot, the book is set to hit the stores soon.

“I failed in matriculation and thus, had to drop out of school in 1987. But I started pursuing my dream. Now I am managing the organisation formed in 2002. As many as 350 staff are working under my supervision across different sectors like health, child protection, livelihood generation, education and services related to techno-managerial support,” Reddy told The Telegraph.

“Right from birth to death, our services are associated,” Reddy said, adding a hospital in Mizoram and a crematorium at Harmu in Ranchi were being run by the organisation.

Reddy did not hide his elation at bagging such a recognition at a national level, saying his responsibilities had now increased.

Last week, all the 30 entrepreneurs featured in the book were felicitated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Reddy, who is from Tamil Nadu, moved with his family to Patratu in the ’70s.

In partnership with Child in Need Institute (CINI), Reddy’s social initiative towards improving the lot of deprived children in Ranchi had been placed among his major achievements.

Besides, his organisation provides telephone, security, tea and coffee services at Swarga Dwar, the main cremation ground in Harmu.

It is also doing its bit to clean up the Harmu river.

Among the others who have been featured in the compilation are Dilip Rao, founder of PayMate and an alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad, and Sanjoy Roy, an artist associated with Jaipur Literary Festival.
