Jamshedpur, April 27: Heavy bridal wears, slim cocktail dresses and elaborately done-up lehenga were what the visitors got to see at Beldih Club this morning.
It was a perfect blend of ethnicity with heavy western influences at the exhibition by upcoming talents Nandita Thirani and Kavita Tulsyan, graduates of International Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT).
Christened “My Best Friend’s Wedding”, Kavita’s creation was a fair mix of eastern and western outfits. With heavy sequins work and bright colours, the collection was one which would best suit the auspicious day and the days that precedes and succeeds it.
“Right from sangeet to sagai and from bachelor party to cocktail party, there is an attire in my collection, which will suit all the different occasions,” said an enthusiastic Kavita, summing up her collection in a single sentence.
She used cotton and georgette for the clothes on display. All the dresses were done-up extravagantly, which is the style of Indian wedding.
The most interesting attire in her collection is the cocktail dresses with slim cuts and western silhouette. Lehenga and saris is the most essential part in their collection as on a wedding ceremony most people are dressed in these attires. Also in place were a large number of dresses designed with figure accentuating cuts richly embellished with mirror work.
While her cotton dresses are priced around Rs 2,500, the georgette collection begins from Rs 6,000.
Currently approached by some of the leading Tollywood directors, the designer is yet to finalise talks with them.
Nandita’s work was characteristically ethnic. Her rich collection of ethnic wear at the exhibition attracted a lot of customers. In the fashion show organised by IIFT, Festive ’08, Miss India World Parvathy Omanakuttam and Miss India Earth Tanvi Vyas walked the ramp sporting her outfits.
