Dhanbad: Waste segregation will soon become easier with Chas Municipal Corporation (CMC) all set to introduce colour-coded trash bins at all its 35 wards ahead of Swachhta Survekshan-2018.
A notice in this regard was issued on Tuesday inviting expressions of interest from experienced suppliers to install 140 colour-coded bins, each of 15-litre capacity.
Divulging details about the project Chas deputy mayor Avinash Kumar said, "The new trash bins will be installed at 140 areas near the existing 140 bins placed at all commercial areas of Chas."
The bins will be painted blue for dry wastes and green for wet. While the new 140 bins will be painted blue and meant for collecting dry wastes, the existing bins - repainted green - will be meant for wet wastes like vegetable pulps, fruit peels and food leftovers.
"Words like 'Wet Waste', 'Dry Waste' and 'Chas Municipal Corporation' will have to be clearly written on all the bins," added Kumar.
Sanitation city manager of CMC Himanshu Mishra said door-to-door waste collection would soon be extended to other wards. "Currently door-to-door waste collection is being carried out at all residential areas in 20 wards with the help of various private agencies and NGOs. We plan to extend the facility to all the 25,600 houses across 35 wards of Chas."
The civic body also plans to provide one green and one blue bucket to each house to facilitate disposal of dry and wet wastes.
"Currently all houses have been provided a single bucket where both dry and wet wastes are disposed off. We are on the process of procuring more baskets to segregate dry and wet wastes," said Kumar, adding the civic body had also purchased four tippers for collecting wastes in addition to the existing 12 tippers.
Chas had emerged the cleanest town of Jharkhand by securing the 41st rank among 434 cities and towns in the Swachh Survekshan 2017.
