Dhurwa witnessed a string of awareness activities against alcohol and drug abuse organised by Jharkhand State Bal Bhavan and Union ministry of social justice and empowerment on Sunday, as part of a nationwide drive.
Symposium, creative writing and poster-making competitions strove to catch the attention of target groups — child workers in the age group between five and 16 and schoolchildren between 12 and 16 years — vulnerable to drugs and alcohol due to social and peer pressures.
While 150 students participated in symposium, 60 pupils took part in creative writing.
Around 80 participants came up with thought-provoking slogans such as ‘think health not drugs’ and ‘don’t let drugs control your life’ in the poster-making competition.
The best five entries each in symposium, creative writing and poster-making will be judged by experts and sent to the second round of zonal-level competition.
Subsequently, a panel of judges will send the five best entries from the entire zone to National Bal Bhavan to slug it out at the all-India level.
The names of the winners will be printed in publications of the Bal Bhavan.
Jharkhand State Bal Bhavan will host nukkad natak, a lecture and rally on August 28.
“We will prepare teams of eight for nukkad natak and perform where alcoholism and drug abuse are rampant,” said co-ordinator S.K. Nag.
