Ranchi, May 10: Abhijeet Group chairman Manoj Jayaswal today called on chief minister Raghubar Das at Project Building, seeking government help for revival of a captive power plant in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

Jayaswal informed Das that the power purchase agreement (PPA) between the state and company had expired and expressed willingness to renew the same.

"We would try our best to resume operations at the Seraikela plant within three months. The project, if revived, will generate 5,000 jobs directly and indirectly," a senior official quoted Jayaswal saying during the meeting with the chief minister.

Das is learnt to have asked Jayaswal to revive the plant within three months, after which the state would renew the power purchase agreement.

Under the agreement, the state is to get 29.4MW electricity from the proposed Seraikela power plant. During the meeting, Das and Jayaswal reportedly also discussed the revival of the proposed 1,080MW power plant of the group in Chandwa area of Latehar district.

The plant, which was proposed to be doubled up in due course, stopped midway a couple of years ago amid reports of financial constraint apparently due to de-allocation of three coal blocks given to the company and its sister concerns in the state in 2014.

When contacted, principal secretary (energy) S.K.G. Rahate conceded that the meeting discussed revival of Abhijeet Group's power unit in Chandwa. "We need to look into various factors before the state takes steps to help the group," Rahate said.
