l Hill Top School was born out of the need for another English school in the Telco township. The school, as the name suggests, was built on a lush green hillock in the heart of the Telco township in 1976. It began with just two rooms that housed 80 students and had four teachers to teach the first batch of students. It was affiliated to the Council of Indian Certificate for Secondary Education but was awarded permanent affiliation only in 2000.

And the permanent affiliation came by in recognition of high standards of excellence. The first batch of ICSE students passed out in 1987 but they sat for their examination from Little Flower School. From 1988, the school have had its own centre.

l Twenty-nine years down the line, Hill Top has evolved into a triple-storied building with a junior and a senior block. What appeals most is the greenery surrounding the school. It has 28 classrooms, one laboratory each for biology, physics, chemistry and computers. All laboratories are fitted with the best equipment required and in the last three years the computer lab was installed with 25 computers. The student-computer ratio is perfect and enables students to spend as much time on a PC. While for high school students, there is one computer for every two students, for the secondary school students, there is one computer for each student in a batch.

l The school has two well-stocked libraries. One for the senior wing and the other for the junior wing. The school library does not only issue books related to subjects and story books but even gives out the latest magazines which would help students prepare for competitive examinations.

Moreover, in order to inculcate the reading habit among students, especially in the junior classes, the school introduced reading corners in all the classrooms of the junior block. So any student who completes his class work before time can go and read books in these corners.

l A lot of emphasis is laid on extra-curricular activities in the school. On the sports front, the school has provisions for basketball, volleyball, badminton and cricket. For indoor games, the school has carom, chess and table tennis. For a more cultural and academic training, the school has loads of clubs to pick from. Students can join dance club, music club, art club, debate club, elocution club, Hindi parishad, mathematics club, science club, eco club, geography club, computer club and quality circles. For the tiny tots, there is a mini zoo that houses rabbits, pigeons and colourful birds.

l The performance is regularly monitored through frquent contests in school, both in the form of inter-school and intra-school events. While academic responsibilities are taken care of by the weekly examinations and the semester examinations, a student?s progress in the extra-curricular events are judged through several in-house events like debate competition, mental maths quiz, elocution, orals, recitation, posters competition, music competition, annual sports day and the list is endless. The students are always encouraged to participate in competitions at all level be it the nationals, state, district or even inter school. And the results are for everyone to see in the school annual magazine Reflection.

l Hill Top School has won accolades in almost every field. Its students emerged winners in Geofest 2004 which was held in Lucknow. One of the participants, Soumya Shaw, will be leaving for Budapest to represent India in the International Geofest. The school has won several inter-school athletic championships where they have been declared as champions and the best participants.

The school registered seven distinctions and four merits in Trinity College effective communication examination. Quizzards of Hill Top walked away with the top honours in a quiz competition organised by Telcon to mark the National Technology Day.

l The Plus Two offers science and commerce and for the admission to these classes, one has to first take an admission test which is later followed by an interview. The candidates are selected on the basis of merits. The course structures for the students from nursery to Class VII are framed by the respective departments under the guidance of the principal and vice-principal. The schools also conduct Angira classes for preparing engineering students for entrance examinations.

l The teachers help students prepare projects and plan out their study format. The school is managed by a school committee comprising senior executives of Tata Motor, appointed by the president.

l The school follows a vision of being the best in eastern region and is always moving ahead with the slogan ?We are reaching high?.
