1.5 acres for MEA hub

Chief minister Raghu-bar Das on Friday announced that the state government would allocate 1.5 acres in Ran-chi to set up Videsh Bhavan, an extension centre of the ministry of external affairs to offer various services to travellers.

Ranchi: Chief minister Raghu-bar Das on Friday announced that the state government would allocate 1.5 acres in Ran-chi to set up Videsh Bhavan, an extension centre of the ministry of external affairs to offer various services to travellers.

"After Mumbai and Telangana, Ranchi is now going to have a Videsh Bhavan," Das told the gathering at the state's maiden Skill Summit-2018, a conclave organised to place youths in private companies under the Momentum Jharkhand initiative to turn the state into a favoured destination of investments.

On the Videsh Bhavan plan, the chief minister the decision to set it up in Ranchi was taken after state minister for youth affairs, sports and tourism Amar Kumar Bauri met Union minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj in Delhi.

He said he state government was also working to regulate and facilitate job placements not just within the country, but also on foreign soil. "Soon, we will have registered placement agencies here so that people aren't duped. The state government would also provide Rs 5 lakh to families of those working abroad should anything untoward happens," the chief minister said.

The summit also saw the unveiling of a draft of Jharkhand Skill Development Policy-2018 was also unveiled on the occasion. The draft would be sent to the state cabinet for approval after a few days when members of the public were invited to offer comments and suggestions.

Five MoUs were also signed with Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society (JSDMS) tying up with the likes of Siesta Hospitality Service, G4S Secure Solutions (India), National Skill Development Corporation, UK Skills and Queensland Skills & Education Consortium.

Visitors appreciated Jharkhand's efforts, but many offered suggestions too.

"The state should ensure that at the school level, art, culture and sports studies are made compulsory from Class V onwards. No matter whatever job you choose when you grow up, but these trades will always give you a perspective to see things differently and hone your skills to become future ready," opined filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

Sangita Reddy of Apollo Hospitals stressed on need of having more skill-based programmes and studies in the field of medical education.

"There is a wide mismatch and scope at the same time. There is a need for 14 lakh doctors in the country, five times more nurses and 15 times more paramedics. There is immense scope for jobs outside India too. We need to be ready," she said, adding that Apollo was working out modalities to set up a hospital in state soon.
