New Delhi: The suspected lethaleffect of the Delhi smog spread to the Indian cricket team on Tuesday with pacer Mohammed Shami throwing up on the Kotla field hours after Sri Lanka's Suranga Lakmal did so.

Shami, who bowled three fiery overs in Sri Lanka's second innings and sent back opener Sadeera Samarawickrama, was seen vomiting during his last over on the fourth day of the final Test.

Although the Calcuttan never left the field, he did not bowl further from the Delhi Gate end. He was replaced by spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who took two wickets.

During the Indian innings, Sri Lankan fast bowler Lakmal vomited while fielding. He left the field briefly, only to come back within a few minutes and resume bowling.

In Calcutta, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said: "Somebody has been crowing about Swachh Bharat. The capital city. Players coming out with masks to play. Kheltey geley, choltey geley, naakey mukhosh lagatey hochhey (For playing, for walking, you need to cover your nose with a mask)."

"Charity begins at home. Dilli ka laddu.... What is the big leader doing about it? Only pollution, from weather pollution to political pollution. First set your own house in order, then lecture others," Mamata added.
