Indian girl students stuck in Kharkiv and waiting to leave are heading towards Ukraine's western border by train, according to ndtv.com.

No stone is being unturned to evacuate the boys seeking help from Russians, adds ndtv.com just before the expiry of the 6 pm evacuation deadline. Kharkiv is now virtually under Russian control.

"A lot of background negotiations with Russians have been going on. Now they, in fact, are helping us in evacuation," a senior government official told NDTV. "The Russians have avoided the areas we had asked them not to target... We are tying up with the Russians for safe passage of our students," he added.

Meanwhile more than thousand students were stranded at the Kharkiv station in the wake of heavy shelling since morning. the students complained they were not allowed to board trains and the ones who could were coerced into getting off. Some even said that were assaulted.

India has been evacuating its citizens through special flights from Ukraine's western neighbours such as Romania, Hungary and Poland as the Ukrainian airspace has been shut since February 24 due to the Russian military offensive.

The IAF planes are also coming from these neighbouring countries only, sources mentioned. Four IAF aircraft with approximately 800 Indian evacuees will land at the Hindon airbase between 1.30 AM and 8 AM on Thursday, the sources added.
