Indian diplomat Dia fined Madan Mitra Boy shot dead Temple theft Lokayukta

Indian diplomat

New Delhi, Jan. 7 (PTI): A Delhi court on Saturday framed charges against former Indian diplomat Madhuri Gupta for allegedly passing on sensitive defence-related information to Pakistan’s ISI.

Gupta, 53, posted as second secretary (press and information) at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, was arrested on April 22, 2010. She has been charged with breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and under the Official Secrets Act. The trial will start on March 22.

Dia fined

Mumbai (PTI): Dia Mirza has been fined over Rs 1 lakh for carrying undeclared purses and cosmetics from Bangkok. The actress, who said she was ignorant about customs rules, was allowed to leave after paying a penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Madan Mitra

Calcutta: A stone was thrown at Bengal sports minister Madan Mitra’s car on AJC Bose Road on Saturday. The windscreen was damaged but nobody suffered injuries. Mitra registered an FIR but did not name anybody in it.

Boy shot dead

Allahabad (PTI): A woman shot dead a one-year-old child in Allahabad on Friday over a monetary dispute. The mother of the kid, Narendra Sharma, had borrowed Rs 60,000 from Puja Singh a year ago. The Sharmas, however, had failed to pay the monthly interest. An altercation broke out, following which Puja shot the baby. Puja has been arrested.

Temple theft

Calcutta: Jewellery worth Rs 30,000 was stolen from a Kali temple in Jadavpur on Saturday. The thieves had entered by cutting the grille.

Lokayukta

Indore (PTI): Lokayukta police on Saturday raided the houses of an assistant engineer at Indore and Chhindwara districts in Madhya Pradesh and detected assets worth around Rs 10 crore, officials said. Rs 88,000 in cash, gold worth Rs 1 lakh and a number of LIC policies were also seized from the two houses. The state employee will be booked under Prevention of Corruption Act.
