Iran frees tanker

New Delhi, Sept. 5 (PTI): Iran today released an Indian tanker carrying crude from Basrah in Iraq, 24 days after it was detained.

Govt email

New Delhi (PTI): The Centre plans to come out with an email policy in two months to ensure that all its employees use only official service for communication, IT secretary J. Satyanarayana said. He added both state and central officials will have to communicate using the nic.in platform.

SP supporter

Etawah: The 22-year-old son of a Samajwadi Party leader was murdered by a group of unidentified assailants on Wednesday night at Etawah in Uttar Pradesh. Rahul Yadav, a Samajwadi worker, was shot around 9pm at a dhaba on the Etawah-Agra road.

The bike-borne assailants, around a dozen of them, fired 30 rounds and nine bullets were pumped into Rahul, a police officer said. To ensure that he is dead, the assailants further stabbed him three times, he added. Etawah is the home town of Samajwadi chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. The victim’s father Ramveer Singh Yadav is Mulayam’s family friend. No one have been arrested yet.

Kanda bail

New Delhi (PTI): Former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, an accused in airhostess Geetika Sharma suicide case, has been granted bail till October 4 by a court. The judge considered Kanda’s plea that he has to attend Assembly and look after the development of his constituency, Sirsa.

Navy trip

Dubai (PTI): Two Indian Navy ships, INS Tabar and INS Aditya, will make a four-day goodwill visit to Qatar from September 10. The Indian embassy in Doha said the visit is part of the convening of India-Qatar joint committee on defence co-operation from September 15.

Shelter abuse

Srinagar, Sept 5: The manager and a guard of a welfare home have been arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting five girls for several years.

The shelter for the special girls is run by non-government organisation Rotary Inner Wheel. The plight of the girls came to light after a rights group in Jammu got reports of their exploitation through a fitness trainer and reported it to the deputy commissioner. Officials said the facility was home to 45 mentally challenged girls. “A police sentry has been placed at the home for the protection of the girls,” an official said.

WW-II mission

Agartala, Sept. 5 (PTI): A team of US Joint Prisoners of War, Missing Action Accounting Commission today left for Tripura’s Dhalai district to search for mortal remains of those who died during a plane crash in World War-II.

The six-member team, led by commissiom director Jennifer Nasarenko, will visit Birmonipara in Gandacherra subdivision, where the wreckage of a US plane was found in January.

NRI doctors

London, Sept. 5 (PTI): The Crown Prosecution Service in the UK has decided not to bring charges against two Indian-origin doctors who were last year caught on video agreeing to perform an illegal sex-selective abortion.

The health ministry has demanded a review of the case involving Raj Mohan and Prabha Sivaraman and the health secretary has referred the case to the attorney-general. The duo were filmed as part of an investigation by The Daily Telegraph last year.

Crash claim

New Delhi (PTI): A claims tribunal has awarded over Rs 48 lakh to the family members of a businessman, who died in an accident involving a rashly-driven truck in 2011. Niwas Yadav, 41, was riding a motorcycle when a truck hit him.

Salman order

Mumbai (PTI): A sessions court has reserved its order till September 24 on Salman Khan’s plea for a direction to the media to report true and fair proceedings of the 2002 hit-and-run-case. It has reserved order till the same day on two other pleas by an activist.

Sonia case

Washington (PTI): An Indian-American attorney has said it is for the New York court to decide if there is personal and subject matter jurisdiction on the complaint filed against Sonia Gandhi by a US Sikh rights group. Ravi Batra said this after observing that anybody can be sued in the US if they pay the court fee.

Italy marines

New Delhi (PTI): India has sought immediate appearance of four Italian marines before NIA for questioning in the Kerala fishermen killing case. It said their reluctance was delaying the trial and affecting the future of two of their arrested colleagues.
