Surat, Feb. 17 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi's self-striped suit that he wore during US President Barack Obama's visit to India last month is up for auction starting here tomorrow.

The suit, which kicked up a controversy, will be auctioned along with 455 items that Modi received as gifts during his nine-month tenure. The auction will be done to generate funds for the Prime Minister's Clean Ganga Mission.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's suit, which he wore during his meeting with President Barack Obama last month, along with 455 other items that he received as gifts will be auctioned at a three-day event in Surat," Surat municipal commissioner Milind Toravane said today.

He said the event would be organised at the civic body's Science Convention Centre.

As Gujarat chief minister, Modi had started the trend of auctioning gifts. The proceeds were donated to a scheme to educate the girl child.
