Amid speculation that he may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Karnal, former Haryana chief minister M L Khattar on Wednesday announced he was resigning as a member of the state Assembly. The former chief minister made the announcement soon after the Nayab Saini government won the trust vote in the Assembly.

State Bank of India (SBI) told the Supreme Court that a total of 22,217 electoral bonds were purchased by political parties between April 1, 2019 and February 15 this year, out of which 22,030 were redeemed. It said details, including date of purchase of each electoral bonds, names of the purchaser and the denomination of the bonds purchased have been furnished.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is linked with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and that is the reason why she is opposing the new legislation. Banerjee also claimed that the CAA is a "political gimmick" ahead of Lok Sabha polls.

BJP named its candidates for all 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh, with Chief Minister Pema Khandu contesting from Mukto seat which he represents in the current House. Assembly polls in the northeast state are held along with Lok Sabha elections. The BJP had won 41 seats in the 2019 assembly polls.

A special Varanasi court sentenced gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment in a three-decade-old fake gun licence case. The case against Ansari was registered under IPC sections 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), along with provisions of the Arms Act at Mohammadabad police station of Ghazipur district in December 1990, he said.

Japan's Space One's small, solid-fuelled Kairos rocket exploded shortly after launch on its inaugural trip on Wednesday as the firm tried to become the first Japanese company to put a satellite in orbit. Kairos carried an experimental government satellite that can temporarily replace intelligence satellites currently in orbit if they fall offline.

NHAI has advised Paytm FASTag users to obtain a new FASTag from another bank before March 15 to ensure a smooth travel experience and avoid inconvenience at toll plazas, an official statement said. Following the Reserve Bank of India's guidelines on restrictions concerning Paytm Payments Bank, the statement said Paytm FASTag users will no longer have the option to recharge or top-up their balance after March 15, 2024.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the response of police and the two men who had allegedly opened fire at activist Umar Khalid outside the Constitution Club here in 2018 on his plea challenging a trial court order discharging the duo of the attempt to murder charge. Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta issued notices to the police and the two accused, Darvesh and Naveen Dalal, on former JNU student Khalid’s petition challenging the December 6, 2023 order passed by an additional sessions judge at Patiala House Courton.
