Rocky Star sent a glitzy and glam line down the runway at LAFW recently. Held in Los Angeles, sexy met sassy in the collection. Designer Rocky S took a few questions from The Telegraph on the showing and his long career in fashion.

You showed a high-on-glamour line at LAFW. These are all party classics, right?

So this collection did feature quite a few glamorous pieces that are all up for a party. It featured our signature floral print that is quite versatile to wear. Florals typically are reserved for spring and summer collections. But I wanted to make them more wearable. And the rest of the collection does feature party classics such as black and gold with sequins.

Tell us about your experience at the showcase...

It was phenomenal; I was so nervous when I left Mumbai for LA, but LA was so welcoming, everything went smoothly, and I couldn’t have asked for better. Backstage chaos is a part of the experience and as nerve-wracking as it was, it was also quite wholesome.

What are the season’s faves?

It is tough to pick one because each piece tells a unique story. And I personally feel that with each piece it has its own personality. And its story continues with whoever chooses to wear it. It becomes a part of this Rocky Star universe while also standing apart on its own. The pieces that feature gold and black have a history with my previous collections and the floral print is also an extension of what has come before. My creativity flows in this direction where I let each piece develop on its own.

After close to three decades of designing, what inspires you?

For this collection, the main source of my inspiration were powerful women, hence the name Shakti: The Eternal Power. I wanted to bring forth a collection that was wearable, bold and eternal. Pieces that never go out of style and contribute to the growth of fashion. Fashion is not just about being trendy, it evolves with us. And there are a few pieces and silhouettes that age with us, so that really pushed me into making this collection.

Any fashion icon of the moment for you?

It’s tough to pick one person, because as you see everyone has their own unique style. With style evolving with the Internet, I feel like no one can name anyone as the “most stylish” or “best dressed”. Style has gotten personal and I wish for it to stay more like this. As we explore more of ourselves, we learn more about our likes and dislikes. So I feel like everyone is a fashion icon these days, as style and fashion are getting more accessible and personal.
