While for most people, the weekend comprises two days, for me, enjoying any time off from work would only be on a Sunday. Saturday in fact, is the busiest day of the week. That’s because for me, it’s back to school ? my dancing school, that is ? the Odissi Vision and Movement Centre.
My day at school starts off at 8am and I use the first couple of hours to wrap up paperwork. Later, I head off for a class with my repertory dancers. Or if it’s that Saturday of the month, I visit South Point school for a session with the students there. Lunch is usually a quick bite consisting of boiled vegetables. I do try and follow some sort of diet, given my penchant for sweets. Post lunch, my time is given over to organising the details for any upcoming recitals and later, theory and practical classes. My day finishes at around 7.30pm after which, I at times head off to the bazaar. It’s great fun, I think, browsing about, buying fish and the like.
Sundays are fun days when I manage to pack in quality time with my husband, Swapan and son, Shoumik. Sunday breakfast is always the same ? luchi-alu and soon after, the conversation almost always veers to what’s on the menu for lunch. While I do participate in the planning, I don’t participate in the cooking much. After all, Sunday is a day to let loose and just relax.
While we usually have guests over for lunch, or may even go out to grab a bite, I like to keep my evenings quiet. I potter about the house, and clean my closet. You see, housework is almost a mode of relaxation for me ? being so far removed from my daily routine. It’s my way of calming down and preparing myself for the week ahead.
