Unlimited is a word with limitless possibilities. Add food as a prefix to the word and it becomes even more tantalising. Bohemian, the contemporary Bengal cuisine destination in Old Ballygunge, has just rolled out their unlimited sit-down buffet that’ll satiate even the largest appetite.
The best part of Bohemian Unlimited is the fact that fresh food — and also those dishes that aren’t on the menu — reaches your table straight from the kitchen, instead of sitting out on the buffet table and not tasting as great.
“The food is plated and tastes how it should. There’s plenty of variety and you’ll never find the same dishes being repeated even if you come on two consecutive days,” said owner-chef Joymalya Banerjee, better known as chef Joy.
But will it have as much variety as a buffet? More we say, with eight types of starters, six main course dishes and four desserts! You can ask for seconds, thirds, fourths of whatever your taste buds love. But will you have space in your tummy? There’s only one way to find out.
STARTERS
1Bekti Puff, which is soft and the filing has hints of celery.
2Pork in Banana Leaf, cooked with Kashmiri chilli and mustard for a heady dose of spice.
3The satay-like Aam Kasundi Grilled Fish.
4Prawn and Cheese Wrap that is creamy, mustard-y and crunchy all at once.
5Chicken Wings Stir-fried in Capsicum and Garlic Sauce, because who doesn’t like chicken wings?
6Royal Bengal Meatloaf flavoured with black pepper and garam masala.
7Mutton Liver Pate, which is creamy and smooth, with crispy garlic and aamshotto.
8Chicken and Mustard Money Bags — steamed and slightly sweet and pungent.
MAINS
Has buffet food ever looked this good? Have there been prawns, chicken, mutton, crab, pork and fish all in the same meal? No! Apart from steamed rice, potato salad and kolmi greens, guests are served generous helpings of six kinds of gravy dishes. t2 tucked into (l-r) a light meen moilee-esque Fish with Baby Turmeric and Coconut, Prawn in Garlic-Coriander Sauce, Crabs with Kolmi Greens and Mustard, Chicken Glace, t2 favourite Keema with Spinach and Coconut and the Anglo-Indian-inspired Spicy Pork Curry. The most difficult part, apart from finishing the huge portions, is to decide what you want second helpings of! If you opt for the vegetarian platter, expect dishes like Kasundi Grilled Paneer and Corn with Kolmi Greens and Mustard.
