Asian dine den with a twist

The fun thing about Funite-A Contemporary Asian Restaurant in Salt Lake, which opened three months back, is its teppanyaki food. The Japanese style of cooking allows one to watch the food being prepared with the meat, fish, veggies or even a dessert sizzling on a hot ‘teppan’ (the Japanese word for a steel plate) as the ingredients are fried or grilled (meaning ‘yaki’).

“After having worked around the world in reputed hotels, I wanted to open something of my own in my country. Also, I wanted Calcutta to experience new flavours and serve food using fresh and natural ingredients,” said Debarya Chakraborty, co-founder and executive chef, who has worked at Hyatt Regency, Delhi, and The Leela Palace, Bangalore.
With warm lights, ochre and maroon walls, the 32-seater restaurant has three sections, one of which is dedicated to the teppanyaki (picture above).
